What are Enhanced LTE Services? (Explained)

LTE (Long-Term Evolution) is a fourth-generation (4G) wireless standard that provides increased network capacity and speed for cellphones and other cellular devices when compared to third-generation (3G) technology.

When it comes to connectivity, the Moto E4 Plus supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11n, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.

It is recommended to keep it On.

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap Network & Internet.
3. Tap Mobile network.
4. Tap VoLTE to toggle this setting on or off.

VoLTE makes use of the LTE network, whereas Wi-Fi Calling makes use of your Wi-Fi network for increased network coverage and a better voice and SMS experience.

If you see LTE on the phone’s top bar, it simply means that it is connected to your carrier’s LTE network. Your phone data connection will not be used for internet access as long as you are connected to Wi-Fi.

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE. The icon indicates that you can now call over LTE. This means that switching back to 3G is not required in order to make a phone call (You cannot phone over normal LTE). In a nutshell, it’s new and improved.

There are no additional fees. Since VoLTE doesn’t use data, you don’t get charged additional fees. It saves battery life. With older networks, your phone would have to switch between networks (e.g. from 4G to 2G), which costs battery life.

The use of higher frequency bands, operating at millimeter wave (mmWave) bands on the radio spectrum, in conjunction with lower band spectrum, will be a significant difference between 5G and LTE. This aspect of the 5G architecture will make massive amounts of bandwidth available, overcoming the traffic congestion issues that plagued LTE.

Without VoLTE, your 4G network becomes 3G on calls that restrict you from using fast internet during calls. With 4G VoLTE, this doesn’t happen. Your 4G network remains the same and allows you to use your data in between calls. You can browse the web, download media, and more during your VoLTE calls.
